Gibson House Press, a Chicago-area publisher of literary fiction, has announced its 2020 list of titles. The novels are: “We Have Everything Before Us” by debut author Esther Yin-ling Spodek, “The Cold Last Swim” by composer, musician, and writer Junior Burke, and “The Town Crazy” by Suzzy Roche, a founder of the singing group The Roches.
In “We Have Everything Before Us” (April 2020) by Esther Yin-ling Spodek, a summer party and a thunderstorm bring relationships into focus, as three women must decide how to move forward in this humorous and dramatic tale of intersecting lives.
Junior Burke’s “The Cold Last Swim” (May 2020) begins in 1954. A live television performance of the General Electric Theater brings a young James Dean together with host Ronald Reagan. Dean brandishes a pistol at fellow actor Reagan, goes off script, and kicks off an alternate history, a “sliding doors” narrative that takes real events in a different direction.
“The Town Crazy” (August 2020) by Suzzy Roche, set in a sleepy suburban Catholic community in 1961, is a novel of passion, absurdity, innocence, and sorrow. A single father moves into town with his young son, which arouses suspicion from the husbands and the interest of the wives, but at the same time one of the wives seems to be losing her mind.
A traditional press based in the Chicago area, Gibson House Press publishes literary fiction in original trade paperback and ebook editions, with a penchant for working with writers who are also musicians. Distributed by IPG, Gibson House titles are available from all book wholesalers and retailers.
